Medical malpractice suspected in hospital outside Texas

A woman who had been employed as a registered nurse learned she had developed a condition in her own pregnancy that required a C-section at 30 weeks gestation in 2015. The events that unfolded in a facility outside Texas turned into a tragedy that has devastated the woman and her husband. Their precious infant has suffered permanent disability they believe was caused by medical malpractice.

Things went well at first when the woman's child was safely delivered and admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit for specialized care. At some point, the infant developed digestive issues and was transferred to another hospital. During his stay there, he came under the care of a particular travel nurse.

The parents had left the hospital for a short while, and upon their return found their baby inconsolable. The nurse said he had been banging his head against his crib. This claim was later refuted since a child of only 41 weeks gestational age would not likely have the strength and muscle control to do that.

The parents were horrified a few weeks later to learn their baby had suffered six broken ribs and bleeding on the brain. Alarmingly, another child who was previously cared for by the same nurse suffered a broken arm. Police are now involved in the investigation. The parents in the most recent incident have filed their intent to pursue a medical malpractice lawsuit. Although compensation awarded through successful litigation can not bring about physical healing, it has helped many others who suffered similar harm in Texas to offset the tremendous costs associated with the injuries.
