There are unique challenges that face motorcyclists. Because of their smaller size, they may be more difficult to see, especially for drivers who may not take proper precautions when executing turns, for example. Unfortunately, police in Texas report that two people were recently killed in a truck accident in which the driver involved allegedly left the scene.
The incident happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. on a day in March. According to reports, the driver of a tractor-trailer was headed north in the right lane of a roadway in Texas. Police believe that the driver attempted to make a left turn onto the southbound lanes.
Unfortunately, two motorcyclists in the left lane reportedly struck the truck as it turned. Both bikers, a 44-year-old male and a 50-year-old woman, died at the scene. Reports indicate that the driver of the tractor-trailer failed to stop and continued heading south. He was arrested soon after, charged with fleeing the scene of a crash. It is unclear if additional charges are anticipated; however, the accident remains under investigation.
Most people in Texas realize that an accident can happen really quickly. As a result, it is necessary for all drivers to remain vigilant and follow traffic safety laws at all times. As this truck accident appears to indicate, failure to do so can have serious consequences. The family of the deceased victims now are left coping with the emotional and financial consequences of their loss; because both can be substantial, they may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the party or parties determined to be responsible. An attorney with experience with such cases can help identify all those potentially liable, possibly including the driver's employer.
