The sudden death from a fatal accident leaves a large hole in the lives of the victim's loved ones. There is often no time for goodbyes or one last "I love you." For many young adults, there has been no planning for an end to life that comes too soon. Alcohol is believed to be the cause of a fatal accident that killed a young Texas man.
A 21-year-old was a passenger in a pickup truck that crashed. Several witnesses who were with the driver of the truck and the passenger said the two men had been drinking before leaving in the vehicle. A report stated the two crashed after the driver fled the scene of a lesser accident. He then lost control of the truck, veered into oncoming traffic and hit a roadside barricade.
Both men were ejected from the truck and were found by police. They were transported to a nearby hospital, but the passenger died at some point after arrival. The driver remains in the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to fully recover. He is facing a second-degree felony intoxication manslaughter charge.
The chaos that follows a fatal accident may leave the victim's family members at a loss as to where to turn. The financial burden an unexpected death often brings may give rise to the need to file a wrongful death lawsuit, where an award could help to pay outstanding medical bills, funeral and burial fees and other associated damages. A Texas personal injury attorney can help family members navigate the civil court process.
