Drinking and reckless driving result in fatal accident

The efforts to reduce the numbers of drunk driving incidents may have helped over the years, but there are still too many drivers who choose to get behind the wheel after they have been drinking alcohol. Many of the accidents drunk drivers cause are not just fender-benders; they often end as fatal accidents or ones resulting in serious injury. A Texas man has been charged after causing a fatal accident.

The late-night collision actually took place two months ago, but the police investigation reached the point they felt they could make an arrest. Based on the investigation and eye-witness accounts, police say the 24-year-old driver of a Jeep was speeding toward an intersection. Although he had a red light, he raced through the intersection and hit an SUV crossing in front of him.

The driver of the SUV, a 25-year-old male, had to be cut out of his vehicle and was not responsive once extracted. The other driver was injured and was transported to an area medical facility for treatment. His arrest came only a few days ago, and he was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a set bond of $500,000.

Families who have lost a loved one in a fatal accident to the recklessness of another person know the pain the family of the young man is feeling. The anger that eventually joins the pain often leads these families to file a wrongful death lawsuit in an effort to hold the responsible party accountable for his or her actions. Because the pursuit of financial compensation can be an overwhelming process, Texas attorneys are available to handle the legal requirements set by the state, taking that burden away from the client.
