Safety should be a priority in our homes, our places of work and on the road. Not using the utmost care in every area of our lives can result in severe injury or even a fatality. Improper maintenance of a vehicle or not ensuring transportation loads are secured can result in tragedy. A Texas man was killed in a fatal accident as a result of inadequate preparation by a semi-truck driver.

According to a report by the Texas Department of Public Safety, a semi-truck was headed north, hauling oil field equipment on a farm road. A piece of the equipment was attached but had not been properly secured, and it swung away from the left side of the truck. It hit a pickup truck traveling in the southbound lane and instantly killed the 38-year-old driver.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the crash and no other vehicles were involved. Information as to any damage to the semi-truck or oil field equipment was not given, although more than one wrecker reported to the scene for removal. No charges have been issued but police have not yet concluded their investigation.

The family of the man killed in the fatal accident will surely have questions they will want answered. Some may pertain to financial compensation that would help pay for final expenses, potential lost wages and emotional pain and suffering. In this case, they are likely entitled to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the semi-truck driver, the trucker’s employer and perhaps even the truck manufacturer. An attorney in Texas will be able to answer their questions and help lay out a plan of action as they go forward.
