Teen driving stolen car causes fatal accident

Some people just do not consider how their actions will affect not just themselves, but others as well. When people choose to be reckless while driving, it can end at great personal cost, perhaps including a fatal accident or one with serious injuries to others. One example is a recent accident in which an 18-year-old Texas driver killed one person as he was trying to evade police.

Police received notification of a stolen vehicle via On-Star. Once they discovered the location of the car, they attempted to pull it over, but the driver sped away and hit from behind a sedan that was waiting to make a left turn. The driver of the sedan was killed instantly, and his passenger was still in critical condition at the time of a report on the incident.

The driver still did not stop but continued to hit other vehicles in his path, including one head-on collision. Two more people were injured but are expected to fully recover. After police finally caught up with the driver, he was charged with murder, causing serious bodily injury and operating a stolen vehicle. He is currently in jail with bond set at $120,000.

The fatal accident left one family suffering from intense grief, having to make decisions about a funeral and burial much too soon, while others may be paying extensive medical bills. Obtaining compensation through an auto insurance claim is often impossible in cases of stolen vehicles. The victims or their families may have to file through their uninsured motorist policies or even their homeowners coverage. By contacting a skilled Texas attorney, families in such situations can learn about every option and obtain assistance for maximizing the compensation they deserve.
