Statistics show there are more car accidents on the roads during rush hour, simply because that is the time of day more people are on the road. However, there are many fatal accidents that occur during the nighttime hours, not only from the lack of visibility but also because there are more drunk drivers on the road from 12 a.m. until 4 a.m. A fatal accident during this time period recently took place on a Texas roadway.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported the accident happened when the driver of a white Range Rover was headed the wrong way on a major state roadway. It collided head-on with a Nissan Altima going south. One of the vehicles caught fire, but the report did not specify which one.

Responding emergency personnel stated the 57-year-old driver of the Nissan was killed instantly. The other driver was injured and was taken to an area hospital. Once he was treated and released, police arrested him on a charge of intoxication manslaughter. He remains in jail, with his bond set at $100,000. Police have not yet concluded their investigation of the accident.

One family is grieving the loss of one of its own after this preventable fatal accident. Not knowing where to turn and the next steps to take is common after a loss of this type. Many families who have faced similar tragedy have chosen to file a wrongful death lawsuit. A financial award will never undo what has already happened, but there may be a sense of economic security that the death of a contributing breadwinner eliminates. An experienced personal injury attorney in Texas can help gather the necessary evidence and pursue recovery of all documented monetary damages.
