Driver's friend dies in fatal accident

Some people, often younger in age, find it exhilarating to consume alcohol and then speed through the streets. The fun ends when an innocent pedestrian, another motorist or a passenger is critically injured or killed. Losing a loved one so suddenly in a fatal accident throws a family into a world of grief and heartache. One Texas man's family is in anguish after losing one of their own in a fatal accident.

The 22-year-old man was a passenger in the car of his friend, just a year older. The friend had been drinking when he decided to drive at a speed over the posted limit. A report did not specify if other cars were on the road, as it was around 2 a.m. on a Friday morning. The driver ran a red light and slammed into a telephone pole.

The passenger was seriously injured and was taken to an area hospital where he died nearly 72 hours later. Initial charges against the driver were intoxication assault. However, they may be elevated to intoxication manslaughter as the criminal case heads to court. Further information on his incarceration and bail were not disclosed.

When a family member dies in a fatal accident the survivors have decisions to make. Often, they find themselves in the situation of not knowing how they will pay for the funeral and burial. In addition, there may be medical bills from the time the victim spent in the hospital. Filing a wrongful death lawsuit could be a solution to the financial woes if an award is granted. Texas residents finding themselves in a similar situation can rest assured an attorney will work diligently to represent their interests while pursuing full financial accountability from the party or parties believed to have been at fault.
