U-turn and dangerous curve play part in fatal accident

Sometimes the seemingly innocent actions of one driver can adversely affect the lives of others. Should a fatal accident occur from one turn of the steering wheel, that driver can be held financially responsible by the family of the deceased. A 19-year-old man died after a fatal accident on a dangerous Texas road.

There were no witnesses to the accident, which happened just before 10 p.m. at a curve in the road. Police have determined that a 16-year-old male was headed south, but moved into the center turn lane to make a U-turn to head the other way. U-turns are legal in Texas if oncoming traffic can be seen at a distance of 500 feet and if there is no signage prohibiting such action. The other driver headed north hit the turning car, forcing it to the side of the road. A third car came along and hit the car belonging to the 19-year-old, killing the young driver.

The unconscious 16-year-old was cut out of his vehicle after approximately 20 minutes by first responders, and then was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. Although CPR was performed on the 19-year-old, he was not able to be revived. Police say they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved on the part of any driver and they are continuing their investigation before determining what, if any, charges will be issued.

There will most likely be a number of questions that will need to be answered in this case. Should it be found that one or both of the two surviving drivers had some some in the death of the young man, his family may opt for filing a wrongful death lawsuit to pursue recovery of monetary damages. The expertise of a skilled Texas personal injury can help families dealing with similar circumstances from a fatal accident by explaining the details and assisting in seeking full financial recovery from all available outlets.
