Alcohol blamed re man's death in fatal accident

The consumption of alcohol dulls the senses, leaving those who have been drinking and then choose to drive vulnerable to harming themselves and those in their path. Many times this all-too-common behavior results in a fatal accident or one with serious injuries. Such was the case involving a 30-year-old Texas woman who is facing charges after causing a fatal accident that killed one man traveling through the state with his family.

The man, with his wife and daughter had pulled to the shoulder of Interstate 10 after being hit by another vehicle. A tow truck and a sheriff's car had come to their aid. While the officer and the daughter were in his cruiser, the parents were standing on the side of the highway with the truck operator. Another vehicle approached, driven by the 30-year-old, going well over the speed limit for that stretch of road. She slammed into the back of the cruiser, causing it to hit the tow truck, flip and land on the couple.

The child and the officer were only slightly injured, but the condition of the parents was more grave. The man died from his injuries after being transported to the hospital. His wife, although seriously injured, is expected to recover. The 30-year-old had initially been charged with intoxication assault, as she had just left a bar at which she had been drinking, but the charges were upgraded after the death of the man. She will now be facing penalties for intoxication manslaughter.

In the midst of the tragedy of losing a loved one in a fatal accident, there are expenses that can leave a family totally overwhelmed. Along with funeral and burial costs, there may be medical bills compounded by a loss of an income. Financial relief could come in the form of an award from a wrongful death lawsuit. While it is always difficult to put a price on the life of an individual, a number of factors can go into deciding a damage amount. A Texas attorney who has years of experience will be able to guide clients in pursuit of legal recourse.
