Truck accident claims two lives, leaves one seriously injured

Though semi-trucks are a vital part of our modern economy, they also pose certain risks. Since they are so much larger and heavier than a basic passenger vehicle, a car involved in a crash with one will likely sustain severe damage. This lesson was apparent in a recent truck accident on a Texas highway that took two lives and left one more with significant injuries.

Police say that the crash happened on a recent afternoon. A semi-truck pulling a flatbed trailer was headed east on a U.S. Highway. The trailer apparently became disengaged from the semi and veered into the oncoming lane of traffic. A westbound passenger car was hit head-on by the flatbed.

First responders had to use the Jaws of Life to free the three occupants of the passenger car. They were subsequently rushed to nearby hospitals, with two of them being taken by helicopter. Two of the victims died, and one remains in serious condition. The driver did not suffer any injuries and was released by authorities. It is unclear whether the truck driver will face any criminal charges in connection with this incident.

Even if the semi-truck driver is not charged with any crime, the families of the victims and the surviving injury victim could decide to pursue legal action. A civil claim could be filed against the driver or any other person or company deemed responsible for this truck accident. Anyone facing this kind of tragedy may want to seek the advice of a Texas attorney with experience in litigating personal injury and wrongful death claims.
